You’ll begin your tour with a narrated eight-mile coastal drive to the forested area of Herring Cove located within the Alaska Rain Forest Sanctuary.
The boardwalk trail leads you to private viewing platforms overlooking Eagle Creek, where bears often come to fish for salmon in the stream. . Typically, large numbers of black bears gather here to feed on these huge runs of salmon that are returning to spawn in the stream. Bald Eagles , Minks, and marten often frequent the area. You will have plenty of time to observe the wildlife activity. See birds of prey up close at Alaska Raptor Center’s raptor exhibit.

& Rain Forest Experience
Join a naturalist for a guided trail walk in search of wildlife in the natural rain forest habitat of the Raptor Zone. Experience an Alaska’s presentation and exhibit, including an up-close view of a bald eagle, and explore a historic sawmill, blacksmith’s shop, and totem garden.
Enjoy a informative half-mile trail walk .. Black-tail deer, mink and marten also frequent the area, with seasonal ecosystem changes resulting in varying levels of wildlife activity. Your guide will help you spot as many different animals as possible.
Enjoy a 30-minute presentation with a handler from the Alaska Raptor Center. You will have some free time to explore the area..
Ketchikan Salmon
Fishing
Board a modern fishing boat, and head to the nearby salmon fishing grounds. Keep an eye out for eagles, whales, seals, sea lions or other wildlife. You will have a shuttle boat take you to your fishing boat.
Only 4-6 guests per boat, you’re off for a fine 3- to 3½ -hour fishing adventure in the sheltered waters of Clover. Catch a fish? Now enjoy every bite, perfectly prepared by our expert chefs and served to you on board your ship.
Alaska State law requires a valid one-day fishing license, which may be purchased for US $25 cash from your fishing boat captain along with a US $15 cash king salmon stamp (during king season, May-June).
There are four downriggers, so up to four rods may be fished at once, allowing for fishing at different depths. Fishermen are rotated (instead of assigning rods) so that everyone has a fair chance to catch a fish. The captain may elect to use only two rods if the fish are plentiful. A light snack is provided. Guests who choose to have their fish processed and sent home (to US or Canada addresses only) will need to bring their credit card to pay for processing. A catch is likely but is not guaranteed. . Dress warmly in layers. Wear a hat or beanie; bring gloves and a scarf.
