15 Day Cruise & Land Tour Vancouver to Fairbanks Cruise First Land Tour Second - Double Denali

DAY 1 FRIDAY  Welcome to Vancouver, Canada! You will arrive at the International Terminal and must claim your own baggage as you clear Customs. After clearing Customs proceed to street side outside of the International Arrival Terminal for your hotel shuttle pickup. The hotel Shuttle bus operates an airport pickup every 30 minutes. The Discover Alaska Representative will be at the hotel to meet you. Your accommodations for the evening are at either the Sheraton Airport Hotel or the Hilton Airport Hotel depending on your travel date.

 * This is an arrival day, therefore you can schedule your flight arrangements at any time. The hotel shuttle bus operates 4:30 Am – 11:30 PM, and circles the airport every 30 minutes.

DAY 2 SATURDAY After breakfast at the hotel, you will board a motorcoach to begin your day-long tour to Victoria and world- famous Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island. Admission to Butchart Gardens is included in your Discover Alaska package. Later you may stroll through the charming downtown that lives up to its British-flavored name with double-decker buses, fine British woolens and delicate China. Your accommodations for the evening are at either the Sheraton  Airport Hotel or the Hilton Airport Hotel depending on your travel date.

* Victoria Tour:  Departure time will be noted in your final itinerary included in your Cruse Package which you will receive 30 days prior your departure

Day 3 SUNDAY After breakfast at the hotel, you will board a motorcoach for a tour of Vancouver including Granville Island, Stanley Park, Chinatown, and historic Gastown. Your tour ends at the exciting Canada Place pier facility where you will board your Holland America 5-Star ship. Lunch will be available at the buffet on the Lido Deck. Each day, in your cabin, you will receive detailed port information and precise arrival and departure times. The Holland America Tour Manager representing Discover Alaska will be on board to assist you.

Vancouver Tour:  Departure time will be noted in your final itinerary included in your Cruse Package which you will receive 30 days prior your departure.

DAY 4 MONDAY Enjoy a relaxing day cruising the Inside Passage, a thousand miles of protected waterways with land close on each side of the ship. Explore the many fine amenities and activities aboard your 5-Star floating resort, or just kick back and watch the wonderful scenery glide smoothly by. Tonight is the Captain’s Welcome Aboard Cocktail Party and Gala Night dinner.

DAY 5 TUESDAY The fishing village of Ketchikan, perched in the small space between mountains and sea, is today’s port of call. Your included Discover Alaska tour will give you this town’s colorful history and take you past the site of what was once the world’s largest wood pulp mills to Totem Bight State Park, a former native campsite on the shoreline, where beautifully-carved totems stand silently among cedar and hemlock trees. Your guide will share native legends and history and take you through the replica of a traditional clan house.

Ketchikan Tour:  Totem Bight Park. (9:00 am – 11:30 am)

DAY 6 WEDNESDAY Juneau is Alaska’s state capital, but you can only reach it by air or water – no roads connect it with the rest of the world. Discover Alaska’s included tour takes you through the city to the Macauley Fish Hatchery and to Mendenhall Glacier. You can observe this distinctive “drive-in” glacier from the US Forest Service observatory and enjoy a short, refreshing walk on one of the nature trails in the area.

Juneau Tour:  City Tour, Mendenhall Glacier Overlook, and working salmon factory  (10:30 am – 1:30 pm)

DAY 7 THURSDAY Skagway is a step back in time with its false-fronted buildings and wooden boardwalks, perfectly preserved as the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park and gateways to the Trail of ’98, which you may explore by vintage railcar. In Skagway, find time to visit the Red Onion Saloon with its costumed bar maids and honky tonk piano.

Skagway Tour:  City Tour, Overlook, and Historical Graveyard (9:00 am – 10:30 am)

DAY 8 FRIDAY As Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site, Glacier Bay National Park protects a unique ecosystem of plants and animals living in concert with an ever-changing glacial landscape. Your cruise ship will be your visitor center for this unforgettable day. Cruise from the Reid and Lamplugh glaciers to the mighty Johns Hopkins surrounded by rugged peaks and sheltering a seal pupping ground.

DAY 9 SATURDAY Today you will enjoy a leisurely day highlighted by evening cruising through picturesque College Fjord. Be sure to take full advantage of all the many activities aboard ship.

DAY 10 SUNDAY You disembark in Whittier, Alaska. A deluxe motorcoach will take you to Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage; with a stop at Portage Glacier. At Portage Glacier, you will board the mv Ptarmigan, cruising across Portage Lake while you view the glacier and watch for fractures of ice break off the glacier. After your cruise you will proceed to Anchorage. Enjoy a tour on your motorcoach lead by an experienced guide of the historic points of interest in downtown Anchorage; then continue to the Anchorage Museum. After the tour you will be taken to your First Class hotel in Anchorage. Breakfast, lunch, dinner included. Overnight accommodations at Captain Cook Hotel.
*Disembark the ship around 8:00AM  – Arrive at your hotel around 4:30 PM

Day 11 MONDAY Transfers to the McKinley Explorer railroad station are scheduled for early morning. Your schedule will be in your Anchorage Welcome Package. Breakfast and lunch aboard the train is included and full bar service is available. Enjoy expert narration as the luxurious McKinley Explorer winds through spectacular scenery in the wild Alaskan interior as you travel to Denali National Park & Preserve. Watch in awe from the observation lounge as you glide past rivers, waterfalls, mountains and valleys. Keep watch for bald eagles, trumpeter swans and beaver lodges as you enjoy food and bar service in the elegant onboard dining room. Discover Alaska has included a wonderful musical comedy about the first men to reach the summit of Mt.McKinley, “Music of Denali Dinner Show” lifted straight out of old Alaska. Dinner features fresh salmon, BBQ ribs and heaps of tasty sides. (Dinner and show approximately 2 hours) Your accommodations for the evening are at McKinley Chalet Resort.

Transfer at 7:15 AM for the train station.  Arrive in Denali around 5:00 PM


Day 12 TUESDAY
 After an early breakfast, you will depart for your Tunda Wilderness Tour of Denali National Park. This tour is 7 to 8 hours in length. The exact time and tour ticket will be found in your Denali Welcome Packet – please have your ticket ready to collect. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars because you will be searching for grizzly bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, wolf and many other small animals and birds. Lunch at the hotel is included after this tour. For those who desire a Greater opportunity to observe the elusive wildlife. As this is a longer tour, a snack box lunch will be provided. Upon your return you will overnight at the McKinley Chalet and enjoy a nice evening dinner at the hotel. 
* Denali National Park Tour is scheduled between 6:00Am – 7:00 AM.  Your bus transfer to Fairbanks departs between 2:00PM – 2:30 PM.   Your arrival time in Fairbanks is around 5:00PM.

Day 13 WEDNESDAY After breakfast your morning is free to enjoy Denali. You will have lunch in the hotel. In the early afternoon you will continue aboard your deluxe motor coach to Fairbanks. . (The motorcoach schedule departure is at 2:00 PM. You will receive the actual transfer information in your Denali Welcome package) You will enjoy your Discover Alaska included dinner at the hotel. Your overnight accommodation is at the Westmark Hotel.

Your bus transfer to Fairbanks departs between 2:00PM – 2:30 PM. Your arrival time in Fairbanks is around 5:00PM.

Day 14 THURSDAY  After a hearty full breakfast, included in your Discover Alaska Package, you’ll be treated to one of Alaska’s premier gold mining attractions, Gold Dredge #8. Your 4 hour tour will introduce you to Alaska’s mining history from 1905 to the present. After watching a short video of the dredge when it was in operation, you will tour inside the dredge itself plus displays and exhibits at the Bunk House, Bath House, and Supply Center. You will see how the machinery scooped up and separated the gold from the gravel. You will also have the opportunity to pan for gold yourself. Next is an historical tour of Fairbanks and a stop at the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. You will enjoy lunch at the Chena River Landing where this afternoon you will board the Sternwheeler Riverboat Discovery for an exciting 4½ hour cruise of the historic Chena and Tanana Rivers. You will stop at the Chena Indian Village where a native guide will take you ashore for an informative tour of the area with native artisans actually working their crafts and a veteran dogsled musher who will introduce you to Alaska’s favorite sport. If that’s not enough, you’ll also see a bush pilot demonstration. This evening Discover Alaska will take you to the 44 acre Pioneer Park which you will enter via an old mining tunnel. Then follow the tantalizing aroma of prime rib, King salmon and cod to the site where you’ll enjoy an All-you-can-eat dinner. Salad bar, iced tea and dessert are included. Wine and beer is available for purchase. Also included at Pioneer Park is the famed Palace Theater Show where you’ll catch the antics of the colorful characters who will give you a glimpse into Fairbanks past and present. After the Dinner and Theater you will return to your hotel.
* Fairbank Tour: Departs around 9:00 AM 

Day 15 Friday Your Discover Alaska package includes a hearty breakfast at your hotel. At least 2 hours prior to your flight departure time you should proceed to your airline check-in area. Your transfer information will be included in your Fairbanks welcome package.
Note*  This is a travel day, and therefore you can schedule your flight arrangements at any time.

Note: 1 *booked on could be affected by this modificationIf a sailing date has less than 15 cabins the Alaska Land portion of the trip will not have a Discover Alaska Tour Manager, but will be Hosted by Holland America throughout the Alaska Land portion of your trip.

Note: 2 *Due to Denali National Park Service operating guide lines, the 7-8 hour Denali Tundra Wilderness Tour may be modified to the 4-5 Tokat Tour on dates before May 20 and after Aug 25. The fully narrated Toklat Tour travels to Mile 53 of the Park Road to the Teklanika River Overlook. The Land+Sea Journey you are booked on could be affected by this modification.

Note: 3 *Pioneer Park Salmon Bake and Theater is subject to closure after Sept 9th.For those passengers arriving in Fairbanks after September 9th they will enjoy a Special “ Taste of Alaska” dinner at the Westmark Hotel.
